Underfloor Heated Garden Room
A returning customer commissioned us to design and build a garden room which would look attractive from all sides as it was destined to stand in the centre of their garden, dividing it into two distinct zones.
The garden room is to be used year-round as a place to relax and entertain friends and family. The building, therefore, had to be heated (underfloor heating mats were chosen for this project) and equally well insulated to retain that heat. The building has insulation fitted into all of the building’s floor, wall and ceiling voids, as well as featuring double glazed units in all doors and windows.
Having agreed the exact positioning of the building and surrounding paved terrace with the client, the site was stripped ready for the introduction of a concrete base. This was quickly followed by the assembly of the prepared building sections which were all constructed (flat-pack style) in the previous weeks in our workshop.
With the building made watertight with a waterproof wrap, electrical cables for the lighting, heating and power units were run out through the wall voids before the internal MDF cladding was fitted to enclose the building’s interior. The double-glazed door and window units were then mounted into their frames.
The building’s roof was clad with cedar shingles to give the building a high quality, long life waterproof finish. Finally, the underfloor heating was laid out and covered with a timber laminate flooring to finish the building’s high quality finish.
The last element to complete the project was to lay a sandstone flag terrace around the building to provide access to both doorways and to create an outdoor entertaining area leading out onto the rear lawn.
