Haverhill Hot Tub & Gym
Having landscaped this small rear courtyard a few years previously, the family asked us to return and redesign the garden to incorporate an indoor hot tub and home gym in place of the unused children’s trampoline.
The principal challenge of this project was the lack of access to the rear of the house – the only external access was via a narrow 2’ pathway which was totally unsuitable for the import of any materials, let alone the spa itself. As a result, it was decided early on that a crane would be hired to lift the spa over the house, as well as the building’s flat packed panels.
Our landscaping team prepared the site with a new concrete base for the spa and a reinforced floor for the new building in place of the trampoline and abundant bamboo planting.
On the day of the installation, the road in front of the property had to be closed to accommodate the large crane needed to clear the three storey house. The spa was first to be lifted into the void left in the floor of the building, quickly followed by the building’s flat packed sections which were assembled in turn to enclose the spa and gym.
To allow the building to be enjoyed year-round the walls and ceiling panels were heavily insulated with all of the doors and windows double glazed – the spa water will provide ample heat to keep the building warm through the winter. The building design also includes bi-fold doors alongside the recessed spa so that our clients could open up the building in the warmer months to allow the two entertaining areas to link.
The building was finished with interior mirrors in the gym area and a specialised thermostat / humidity extractor unit to prevent moisture build-up within the building when the spa was used with the doors closed.
