Bury Rugby Corporate Sponsor Building
Hutchinsons have been long term supporters of Bury st Edmunds Rugby Club and have donated several structures over the years, including pitch-side dug-outs and storage buildings. Last year the club approached us with a challenge to design and build a corporate dining and meeting room to stand on a raised area overlooking the main pitch.
Of absolute priority was a clear view over the pitch, so a front wall of windows was an essential element for the building. In addition, the club requested that the building have a long term, maintenance free future – leading to the choice of Hardie Board cladding panels with UPVC doors and windows adding both security and durability.
With the flat packed framework pre-prepared in our Essex workshop, the “kit” was delivered and assembled on site within a week. As club rugby is a winter sport, insulation was an essential element of the design, and insulation was incorporated into all voids (walls and ceiling) along with electrical cabling before lining the interior of the building with plasterboard.
Following the work of a specialist plasterer, the building’s interior was painted and downlighting fitted into the ceiling. The floor was clad with a hard wearing wooden laminate flooring over an insulated membrane, with thermostatically controlled air conditioning units which will maintain the temperature within set boundaries throughout the year. Finally, the roof was finished with a thick EPDM rubber membrane to provide 25 years of protection against the elements.
